Sequential Match
Sequential Match maps copied values to destination fields in the same order they were copied. Use it when:
- the source and destination forms have the same field order; or
- you deliberately selected corresponding fields in the same sequence.
If the destination has an extra field near the beginning, later values can shift to the wrong controls. Review the result whenever the two forms differ.
Smart Match
Smart Match tries to pair copied fields with destination fields that represent the same information. It compares available field information to find suitable matches. Pro users can also create Custom Field Groups for more control over how fields are matched.
Use Smart Match when field order differs, when copying data across sites, or when equivalent fields use different wording.
Change the matching mode
- Open MultiField CopyCat.
- Under the Copy tab, turn Smart Match on to match by field similarity, or off to return to Sequential Match.
- Start the paste action you need.
Smart Match is off by default.
What happens to unmatched fields
Smart Match leaves destination fields unchanged when it cannot find a confident match. It does not fall back to filling every remaining field sequentially. You can fill the missing values manually, improve the field labels when you control the form, or add a Custom Field Group with Pro.
