How Smart Match Works

Smart Match connects copied values to destination fields by meaning instead of relying only on their position.

When to use Smart Match

Enable Smart Match when the destination form has a different order, uses related labels, or belongs to another site. For forms with identical field order, Sequential Match may be simpler and more predictable.

How fields are compared

Smart Match examines the information available around a source and destination field. Its matching priority is:

  1. Pro Custom Field Groups.
  2. Built-in groups of related field terms.
  3. Fuzzy comparison of the remaining field text.

The extension makes one-to-one matches: after a destination field is paired, it is not reused for another copied value.

Enable Smart Match before pasting into a form with different labels or order.

Use Smart Match

  1. Open MultiField CopyCat and select the Copy tab.
  2. Turn Smart Match on.
  3. Copy fields with Dragbox or Copy All Fields.
  4. Paste with the corresponding Dragbox or page-wide action.
  5. Review the matched results before submitting the form.

Unmatched fields

When no match is confident enough, the destination field remains unchanged. Common causes include missing labels, vague labels such as “Value,” heavily customized controls, or terminology the matcher does not recognize.

Smart Match and Autofill

Autofill also uses field information when applying saved values. On a saved matching URL, Autofill can first use stored selectors and then Smart Match for remaining fields. When manually applying a saved setting to another page, matching prioritizes Smart Match before selector matching.
